Tham Morakot is on Koh Mook, east of Lanta. The entrance is a low gap in the cliff face that you can only reach by boat, and the only way through is to swim.
The tunnel runs about eighty metres and is genuinely dark in the middle — you hold a float line and follow your guide’s torch. It opens onto a small beach of white sand entirely enclosed by cliff, with a circle of sky overhead and a strip of jungle at the back.
You need to be comfortable in water and in the dark for a few minutes. Life jackets and the float line mean you do not need to be a strong swimmer. Access depends on tide — the entrance is impassable at high water.
