Mid-island beach run — Long Beach to Klong Nin
The main road south through Klong Khong to Klong Nin, the last proper village before the hills. Still flat, still sealed, and it takes in the two beaches with the most different characters on the island. Klong Nin is the natural lunch stop and the last place with an ATM, shops and a clinic before the south.

Along the way
Klong Khong
the cheapest strip on the island, reggae bars and tidal pools, and famous sunsets
Klong Khong's caveat
rocks and coral make getting into the water genuinely tricky at low tide; bring water shoes
Klong Nin
sandy seabed, deep enough to swim even at low tide, the best swimming beach in the middle of the island
Klong Nin is the junction
the cross-island road to Old Town leaves from here
Last reliable ATMs and shops before the southern hills

Road notes
Flat and sealed, a straightforward continuation of the northern road. Sand and gravel collect where side roads join the main road, so treat every junction as a slippery one. Beach access tracks vary — some are sealed, some are short sand runs. Fine for a beginner who has already done the northern loop. Fill up before you go further south.
